Urea and Biuret for Lambs

چکیده
C ORN silage is a major source of roughage for ruminants in the cornbelt, because it is one of the most productive crops of total digestible nutrients and animal gains per acre. However, to make up a complete growingfinishing ration with corn silage it is necessary to supplement it with sources of energy, nitrogen and minerals. The addition of urea to corn, sorghum or grass at ensiling has given variable results (Cullison, 1944; Woodward and Shepherd, 1944; Wise et al., 1944; Davis, 1944; Archibald, 1946; K/osterman et al. 1961). Considerable research has been directed toward the study of biuret as a nonprotein nitrogen (NPN) source for ruminants (Repp et al., 1955; Ewan et al., 1958; Hatfield et al., 1959; Campbell et al., 1963; Karr et al., 1964; Johnson and McCIure, I964), but data have not been reported concerning its value as a preservative or a nitrogen source in corn silage. The present series of experiments was conducted to: (1) nutritionally evaluate complete ensiled diets, (2) compare urea and biuret as NPN sources in a complete ensiled diet, (3) determine the fate of urea and of biuret during the ensiling and fermentation process, (4) determine the effect of adding various concentrate mixtures on organic acid production during fermentation, and (5) study the effect of diethylstilbestrol implants (DES) on utilization of nitrogen.

Effects of tallow and urea on in vitro rumen fermentation and nutrient digestion in sheep.
An in vitro study was conducted using a 4 • 2 • 2 factorial design with RAC (readily available carbohydrate) levels of 30, 40, 50 and 60%, tallow levels of 0 and 3%, and urea levels of 0 and 2%. Acetic and propionic acid production and ammonia disappearance increased as the level of RAC increased from 30 to 50%. Tallow reduced acetic acid production and increased the amount of propionic acid pr...

Two experiments were conducted to determine the influence of supplemental nonprotein N (NPN) provided daily (D) or every other day (2D) on ruminant performance and N efficiency. Treatments included an unsupplemented control (CON) and a urea (28.7% CP) or biuret (28.6% CP) supplement provided D or 2D at 0700. In Exp. 1, five wethers (39 +/- 1 kg BW) were used in an incomplete 5 x 4 Latin square ...

chlorosis, but the addition of urea to the solu tion appeared to enhance the effect of the biuret. Experiment 4. When different amounts of commercial urea and crystalline urea were ap plied to the soil, 10 weeks were necessary for the chlorosis to appear on the trees which had received 60 and 80 grams of the commercial urea. No chlorosis resulted from the crystal line urea. Experiment 5. As a r...

Rapid synthesis of symmetrical 1, 3disubstituted urea derivatives from biuret and different substituted anilines has been carried out in presence of Sodium chloride (NaCl) in dry media. Diverse substituted anilines were reacted with biuret in 2:1 molar ratio to give the corresponding urea derivatives. The reaction conditions were clement, solvent free, mild and the products were attained in goo...
